Feeling a little stressed out? Are you thinking about receiving a massage therapy session? You're not alone. A number of men and women find massage therapy to be a valuable addition to their health and fitness routines, and an effective complement to other health care services.
Baptist Family Fitness offers therapeutic massage, a natural and instinctive method to soothe minor aches and pains as well as bring relief from nervous tension and fatigue.
Testimonies The Benefits of Therapeutic Massage
Massage therapy has been around for centuries. It consists of systematic manual or mechanical manipulation of the soft tissues of the body by rubbing, kneading, pressing, rolling and tapping. This manipulation can:
- promote the circulation of the blood and lymph systems
- relax the muscles
- reduce stress
- lower blood pressure
- increase metabolism
- relieve pain in the neck, shoulders and back
- relieve muscle spasms
- rehabilitate injured tissue
Available by appointment only. Clients who come in for a massage complete a health intake form and discuss their expectations with one of the fitness center's licensed massage therapists. This helps the therapist determine what kind of massage will be most beneficial and which parts of the body require massage. Three licensed massage therapists are on staff: Deedra Farmer, Kelly Burton and Allison McDaniel

The average massage therapy session lasts about an hour; however, 30-minute sessions may be scheduled if the therapy is being focused on a specific area, such as the legs and feet or neck and shoulders.
Therapy is conducted in a private massage room equipped with a table especially designed for massage comfort. Soft music may be played to help the client relax. Clients are properly draped at all times to keep them warm and comfortable. Only the area that is being worked on will be exposed.
Swedish Massage
A combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive, and tapping movements are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. Many benefits may include generalized relaxation and increased blood circulation. Excellent for eliminating tensions from the body and for reducing tightness and muscle pain.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy
Also known as "Barefoot" massage. The word Ashiatsu combines two Japanese words "ashi" - "foot" and "atsu" - "pressure". Your therapist will use soft, clean feet while holding on two parallel ceiling bars for balance and support. Ashiatsu treatments are a more effective application of deep tissue massage. The pressure is constant and evenly maintained. It creates more circulation. More circulation brings about faster healing.
Clients don't walk out of a session - they float.
